About Caldwell Family Centre

The mission of the Caldwell Family Centre is to reduce the impact of poverty in Ottawa. The Centre plays a critical role in supporting residents in need through a wide variety of essential services, including food security, social engagement, and child and youth programming.

Position Overview

The Food Bank Programs Coordinator oversees the day-to-day organization and delivery of food and nutrition programs at the Caldwell Family Centre. This includes managing the on-site food bank, supporting partner agency programs, facilitating home deliveries, and running weekly off-site food bank services at 1475 Caldwell Avenue and 6 Epworth Avenue.

This role requires close daily collaboration with meal program kitchen staff, hands-on volunteer supervision, physical inventory handling, and direct client support.

Key Responsibilities

Program Coordination & Logistics

  • Coordinate daily operations for on-site, off-site (1475 Caldwell Ave and 6 Epworth Ave), and home delivery food bank programs.
  • Unload a 4,500 kg delivery truck for food supplies and off-site program setups.
  • Inspect all incoming produce and food inventory for freshness and "best by" dates.
  • Maintain daily communication with kitchen staff to ensure produce and foodstuffs meet meal program needs.
  • Prepare weekly food boxes and personally deliver emergency food boxes when necessary.
  • Ensure all food bank areas are kept clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety protocols.

Volunteer & Student Leadership

  • Work with management to determine volunteer staffing needs.
  • Assign duties, train, and supervise volunteers and placement students in all food bank operations and safety procedures.
  • Oversee team tasks including delivery unloading, food sorting, shelf stocking, and client service.

Client Service & Administration

  • Serve clients directly in the food bank, fulfilling reception duties by recording client visits and providing warm referrals to Caldwell Family Centre's Wrap Around Services.
  • Accept monetary and in-kind donations and collect required details for charitable tax receipts.
  • Collect data and maintain accurate records in the Link2Feed database, generating attendance and demographic reports.
  • Provide flexible support by filling in for other roles within the organization when required.

Requirements

  • Driver's License:. Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license
  • Physical Capability: Must be physically able to carry 50 lbs up and down stairs.
  • Supervisory Experience: Previous supervisory experience is mandatory.
  • Background Check: Must successfully pass a police record check.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills, a pleasant demeanor, and a commitment to working respectfully with diverse populations and cultures.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: Post-secondary education in the Humanities OR demonstrated experience coordinating human services programs.
  • Mandatory Certifications (Will be provided upon hire if not currently held):
  • Safe Food Handling Certification
  • First Aid / CPR Certification
  • WHMIS Certification

Preferred Assets

  • Experience working in a warehouse or logistics environment.
  • Experience recruiting, training, or supervising volunteers.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training.
  • Fluency in a second language.
