Job Summary

The primary and usual role of the employee in this job class is to be responsible for the execution of all housekeeping, preventive maintenance, and physical maintenance work in an educational institution or building, and this responsibility is assumed over a total area of less than 9,275 m2.

This role also involves organizing and executing such work, coordinating and supervising it when it is performed with or by other employees.

It also exercises the characteristic attributes of the maintenance worker class, class II.

Task Description

  • Ensure the cleanliness of the premises.
    • Organize and carry out maintenance work by exercising the functions of a class II maintenance worker.
    • Ensure that maintenance equipment and appliances are in good condition
    • Ensure the building and its equipment are in good condition
    • Inspect and check lighting, heating, and ventilation systems
    • Ensure the operation of heating equipment
    • Perform or have performed the required preventive maintenance
  • Perform minor or temporary repairs
    • Report any detected malfunction and ensure that necessary repairs are made
    • Monitor the work of workers
    • Repair doors, windows, furniture
    • May assemble and install equipment
  • Ensure adequate security against fire and theft
  • May be required to monitor the arrival and departure of visitors, students, and staff
  • Ensure, if necessary, the preparation of rooms
  • Purchase and acquire the materials, products, and equipment necessary for maintenance work
    • Maintain inventory
    • Ensure compliance with standards for the use, storage, and secure disposal of products
    • Make suggestions and recommendations regarding products, materials, equipment, and work methods.
  • May be called upon to coordinate, supervise, and control the work of other non-specialized employees.
  • May be required to perform other related tasks.

Sought Profile

Experience

Have three years of relevant experience.

Practical knowledge

Have a general knowledge of the operation of the various mechanisms under their supervision: heating, ventilation, lighting, and alarm systems.

Have a basic knowledge of the main building trades.

Additional Information

  • Diplomas obtained outside of Quebec must be accompanied by a comparative evaluation issued by the Ministry of Immigration, Francization and Integration (MIFI). Evaluations from other organizations (e.g. WES) are not accepted.
  • CSET staff is subject to the Public Instruction Act and the Act on State Secularism. These laws provide, among other things, the obligation for all CSET staff to perform their duties with their face uncovered. They also provide for the prohibition of wearing religious signs, in particular for any staff member on the premises of a school or center or in the presence of a student.
