Job Summary

The primary and usual role of the employee in this job class is to organize, prepare, and lead a variety of activities that promote the overall development of preschool and elementary school students in their care, as part of the school's educational project, while ensuring their well-being and safety.

They may be called upon to provide support in the classroom.

Task Description

Tasks in daycare service

Assistance, support, and safety of students

  • Helps students to dress and undress.
  • Helps students with their meals and snacks, while ensuring respect for hygiene and well-being rules.
  • Ensures the supervision and safety of students by respecting conduct rules, safety measures, and parental recommendations
  • Administers first aid and, if necessary, medication according to medical requirements, school policy, and parental guidelines.
  • Ensures the order and cleanliness of the premises, as well as the maintenance of equipment and materials.

Activities and communication

  • Plans, leads, and participates in activities related to the educational program.
  • Records student attendance.
  • Informs parents and all concerned parties about student behavior.
  • Participates in meetings organized by the daycare technician concerning the organization and operation of the service.
  • May be called upon to mentor new educators in a school setting.
  • Performs any other related task.

Tasks in the classroom

Assistance and support to students

  • Helps students to settle into the classroom and prepare for learning activities.
  • Contributes to the development of student autonomy (dressing, material management, etc.).
  • Provides support for student learning, under the supervision of the teacher.

Supervision and safety of students

  • Accompanies and supervises students during arrival, departure, and transitions.
  • Ensures the safety of students and respects conduct rules.
  • Provides first aid when needed.

Class organization and administrative support

  • Participates in the maintenance and organization of classroom materials.
  • Prepares and displays educational materials.
  • Assists with administrative tasks, such as photocopying or coordinating events.

Collaboration and communication

  • Works in collaboration with the teacher.
  • Assists in meetings with parents upon request.
  • Supports activity planning in collaboration with management and the school team.

Profile sought

Education

Meet one of the following two profiles:

  • Hold a secondary school diploma and a professional studies certificate in childcare
  • Hold a diploma and certificate whose equivalence is recognized by the competent authority

Experience

Have one (1) year of relevant experience

Other requirement(s)

  • Mastery of French and English (written and spoken)
  • Hold a certificate dated no more than three (3) years and attesting to the success of either:
    • a standard first aid course with a minimum duration of eight (8) hours; OR
    • a refresher course with a minimum duration of six (6) hours updating the skills acquired in the course mentioned in subsection 1.

  • Provide the required employment certificates to validate the declared experience. Each letter must include: position held, start and end date of employment, number of hours worked per week (or total for the employment), name, address, and signature of the employer.
  • Undergo judicial background checks and checks for behaviors that may compromise student safety (Law 47)
Additional information 1. Diplomas obtained outside of Quebec must be accompanied by a comparative evaluation issued by the Ministry of Immigration, Francization, and Integration (MIFI). Evaluations from other organizations (e.g. WES) are not accepted. 2. CSET staff is subject to the Public Instruction Act and the Act on State Secularism. These laws provide, among other things, that all CSET staff must perform their duties with their face uncovered. They also provide for the prohibition of wearing religious symbols, particularly for any staff member on school or center premises or in the presence of a student.
