Civil Engineer

Job purpose

Civil engineers plan, design, develop and direct construction projects for civil engineering elements.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Plan and design civil engineering works, such as roads and highways, sanitary and storm sewer systems, water supply systems, building infrastructure (parking, connections, etc.), mechanical systems such as pumping or booster stations, stormwater management works, dams, etc.;
• Develop descriptive plans and estimates of the work;
• Prepare execution schedules and work estimates;
• Conduct preparatory studies for the work, such as feasibility studies, hydraulic and hydrological studies, and write reports;
• Conduct research to determine the requirements for project implementation;
• Act as project manager and ensure coordination with all stakeholders;
• Prepare contractual documents and evaluate bids;
• Supervise the work of junior engineers, technicians, technologists and drafters and review and approve design work, calculations and cost estimates;
• Ensure site supervision, particularly during critical phases;
• Write and/or approve reports useful for requests for authorizations necessary for the execution of work, such as authorizations from the Ministry of the Environment, Transport or Wildlife;
• Prepare service offers for clients.

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction engineering or water engineering;
• Member in good standing of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec;
• Sense of organization;
• Autonomy;
• Concern for doing good work, involvement and commitment to the success of assigned mandates;
• Rigor and professionalism.
