- Write clean, secure, readable, and maintainable code, aligned with team standards and architectural direction
- Create and maintain automated tests, including unit, integration, and regression tests where relevant
- Review peers' code and incorporate feedback to improve the quality of solutions
Quality, reliability, and operations
- Resolve application and data issues, identify root causes, and implement reliable fixes
- Support applications hosted on Microsoft Azure, working with operations or platform teams when infrastructure changes are required
- Work with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, including schema changes, queries, data integrity, and performance-sensitive aspects
- Contribute to monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational readiness of supported product features

- Professional experience in web application development and maintenance, ideally in a product development environment
- Practical experience with Ruby on Rails or a comparable web MVC framework, with a willingness to deepen Rails expertise
- Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented design, testing, debugging, version control, and secure development practices
- Experience with relational databases like PostgreSQL, including writing queries and basic schema design concepts
- Ability to use AI tools responsibly to accelerate development while maintaining high standards of reliability, quality, privacy, and security
- Ease in a collaborative agile environment including code reviews, iterative delivery, and shared responsibility
- Ability to communicate clearly in writing and speaking in English
Preferred / Assets
- Experience deploying or supporting applications on Microsoft Azure
- Experience with PostgreSQL optimization, data migration, or production data troubleshooting
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated quality gates, observability, and DevOps practices
- Exposure to digital identity, cybersecurity, privacy, compliance, or regulated environments
- French language skills
Technical and Domain Knowledge
- Ruby on Rails application development and web application lifecycle
- Cloud-based application platforms on Azure and related operational considerations
- Relational database concepts, especially PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations, indexing, and data integrity
- Software quality practices: automated testing, code review, static analysis, secure development, and maintainable design
- Responsible use of AI-assisted development tools, including verification, clarity of prompts, privacy protection, and human accountability for the final code
- Awareness of security, privacy, and trust concepts relevant to the Portage CyberTech domain
How Success Looks
- You are curious, pragmatic, and disciplined, balancing speed and accuracy
- You use AI as an accelerator, not as a substitute for engineering judgement, testing, or accountability
- You ask clarifying questions early, communicate trade-offs clearly, and raise concerns so they don't become surprises
- You take ownership of the quality and maintainability of the code you deliver
- You work respectfully across disciplines and contribute to a team environment built on trust, learning, and continuous improvement
