About the Position :
Type: Full-time permanent position
Salary: $32 - $35 / hour + shift premium
Hours: Monday to Friday, 3:30 pm to 12:00 am

The Technician III must be able to perform the majority of heavy maintenance and service tasks on Ryder vehicles with minimal support. He works with the assistance of a T4, TIC, SS, or SM during highly technical or complex repairs. Task assignments are directed by shop management to promote skill development in a productive manner. The Technician III works under the general supervision of the Shop Supervisor or designated Service Manager. He exercises discretion in problem-solving or making repairs.
Essential Functions :
  • Perform vehicle maintenance and heavy maintenance tasks as needed
  • Act as a mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels
  • Interact with customers/drivers to correctly determine the nature of the complaint once a task is assigned
Additional Responsibilities :
  • Tire and wheel maintenance: Tire and wheel safety training within 90 days (TW220)
  • Preventive maintenance
  • Air brakes: Air brake training and certification within 90 days (BA220 & BA298)
  • Hydraulic brakes: Hydraulic brake training and certification within 90 days (BH220 & BH298) as applicable
  • Air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration
  • Material handling/transfer, lift gates
  • Charging systems (electrical): HD electrical training within 90 days (DR208)
  • Perform diagnostics and repairs of charging systems
  • Starting system (electrical)
  • Lighting and electrical accessories system
  • Clutch
  • Cooling systems
  • Drive axles
  • Transmission
  • Diesel and gasoline engines - All engines
  • Fuel systems
  • Steering and non-driven axles and alignment
  • Suspension-Chassis and cab
  • Vehicle coupling system (PM)
Skills and abilities:
  • Ability to read and/or listen and understand communicated information and ideas
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High rigor and reliability
  • Availability for on-call duties and to work shift work/weekends
  • Solid mechanical skills
  • Ability to perform all entry-level tasks, test drive vehicles as needed
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships at all levels of the organization (colleagues, work groups, customers, supervisors)
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Flexibility to operate independently and be motivated to excel in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, highly organized, with excellent time management skills

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma/GED preferred
  • Professional certificate or post-secondary technical diploma or technical certifications, preferred
  • Basic tools, required
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of gasoline or diesel automotive engines, including:
  • Routine preventive maintenance, including oil changes, brake and tire repairs, required
  • Basic diagnostics and repairs, including air conditioning and electrical systems, required
  • Three (3) years or more of relevant experience, preferred
  • Knowledge and ability to apply computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) CLASS A, preferred
  • Any other certification required by the site
