The road driving competence evaluator plays an essential role in road safety by assessing the ability of drivers to adopt safe and responsible driving practices. He observes, analyzes and makes major decisions, such as granting, maintaining or revoking a driver's license. These decisions, applied in accordance with laws and regulations, determine who can access the road network and contribute to the protection of all users.

• Salary: $44,653 and $61,163.*

How to move things forward on a daily basis

• Evaluate the driving skills of clients by carefully observing their behavior, maneuvers, autonomy, as well as their ability to respect safety rules and current legislation;
• Guide the client on a route presenting various traffic conditions, on the road or in a closed circuit depending on the type of vehicle;
• Monitor the road environment and intervene according to procedures in case of risks to road safety or that of road users;
• Analyze the client's file to identify any factors that may influence the level of risk to road safety;
• Clearly explain the objectives of the examination to clients, while ensuring they understand the procedure and expectations of the evaluation;
• Conduct a vehicle inspection with the client, and assess their ability to perform a safety check, thus ensuring preventive control of their vehicle before driving;
• Analyze relevant data to make a fair and equitable decision regarding the granting, maintenance or withdrawal of the privilege of driving, formulate recommendations and clearly communicate the decision to the client, explaining the underlying reasons in a respectful and constructive manner;
• Accompany and train new evaluators, sharing your knowledge and expertise as needed;
• Perform various transactions related to road vehicle registration, driver's licenses, RAMQ and exam request management, following established procedures while ensuring secure management of your cash register;
• Accomplish various customer support tasks as needed by the service center, such as accompanying clients, transmitting and managing different transactions.

Important: You will be responsible for evaluating the driving of heavy vehicles (class 1) and/or motorcycle driving (class 6) as well as reassessing skills. In addition to your position, you will be responsible for evaluating passenger vehicles (class 5) and playing a key role in transforming the Société by guiding citizens in the use of Web services, including creating SAAQclic accounts. All these actions are part of a customer-centric service approach.

Job requirements

• Hold a secondary school diploma (DES) issued by the competent authority or a certificate of studies whose equivalence is recognized by the competent authority;
• A person with fewer years of schooling than eleventh grade or fifth year of secondary school may compensate for each missing year of schooling with two years of paid or unpaid work experience, including family work.
• Any schooling completed outside of Canada must be the subject of a comparative evaluation (equivalence certificate) issued by the Ministry of Immigration, Francization and Integration (MIFI).
• Have at least one year of relevant experience related to the duties of the job class.
• The year of relevant experience may be compensated by a year of relevant higher education beyond the minimum required schooling.
• Hold a class 5 driver's license for at least 2 years. *
• To hold Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status, or a work permit issued by the competent federal authority to occupy a position in the Quebec public service.
• A person waiting for proof of their permanent resident status or a work permit issued by the competent federal authority may be considered during a selection process. However, they must hold permanent resident status, Canadian citizenship, or a work permit issued by the competent federal authority at the time of their appointment.
• To have a knowledge of French suitable for the functions.

Other employment requirements

Security clearance: The hiring prerequisites are verification and evaluation of solvency and judicial records.
