Job description

AECOM is currently looking for a Senior Hydraulic Engineer for a full-time position based in Montreal or Ottawa.

The successful candidate will mainly contribute to projects involving hydroelectric power plants, pumped-storage stations, dams and hydraulic structures. They may also be called upon to support other business lines, including port infrastructure, structures and environmental initiatives.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as technical lead and take charge of assignments related to the discipline, coordinating the professionals and technical teams assigned to projects;
  • Prepare and write technical reports and calculation notes for various projects, including hydraulic studies and analyses, energy production simulations, transient flow analyses and dam safety studies;
  • Carry out feasibility, preliminary design and detailed design studies for hydroelectric works and pumped-storage plants (powerhouses, dams, spillways, diversions, etc.), and occasionally for hydraulic structures (channels, bridges, etc.);
  • Perform numerical modelling of flows and dam break simulations (1D, 2D and 3D models);
  • Ensure quality control of technical studies carried out by team members and supervise engineers.

Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a specialization in water resources or hydraulics;
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ);
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in hydraulic design of hydroelectric developments, numerical flow modelling and dam safety;
  • Good knowledge of HEC software suite;
  • Excellent technical report writing skills;
  • Excellent command of French, both spoken and written;
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.

Desirable qualifications

  • Master's degree in hydraulics or a related field;
  • 20 years or more of relevant experience;
  • Proficiency in Flow-3D and Simsen software;
  • Bilingualism (French and English), required for assignments outside Quebec;
  • Valid driver's license
