Analyst, Market Settlement and Structured Transactions

About the position Reporting to the manager, Market and Structured Transactions Settlement, the analyst is responsible for settling transactions on the energy market and long-term contracts.

Key responsibilities Ensuring that daily and monthly settlement-related tasks are completed;

  • Validating and understanding accounting entries for month-end accruals and invoices, and ensuring they comply with the organization's accounting standards;
  • Understanding settlement algorithms and charge codes on the energy market in order to develop phantom calculations and improve validation processes;
  • Understanding the corporate structure in order to assign products and charges to the correct legal entity and business strategy;
  • Conducting research and analysis to stay up-to-date on market rules affecting settlement;
  • Analyzing current settlement processes, procedures, and reports with a view to proposing improvements;
  • Validating and preparing regulatory reports;
  • Collaborating with various departments to ensure the accuracy of data included in financial and regulatory reports;
  • Working on improvement and implementation projects for systems and executing user acceptance tests;
  • Collaborating with external counterparties to understand and resolve settlement-related disputes;
  • Supporting the manager, Market and Structured Transactions Settlement, and providing various updates on daily activities.

Required knowledge and experience Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Finance, or a related field;

  • Relevant work experience of at least two (2) years in a related field, preferably in the energy sector;
  • Eager learner with a demonstrated ability to excel in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Solid analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and quality of work;
  • Being entrepreneurial and having the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision as well as within a large team;
  • Ability to find and gather data from appropriate sources and analyze it to prepare meaningful and concise reports;
  • Ability to self-motivate and work on various tasks and projects simultaneously in a constantly evolving environment;
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to work under tight deadlines;
  • Ability to solve problems and demonstrate good judgment;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Advanced skills in Excel (e.g., macros, pivot tables, Visual Basic, and PowerQuery);
  • Knowledge of the Industrial and Financial Systems (IFS) software is an asset;
  • Knowledge of transaction entry and data validation software, such as Open Access Technology International, Inc. (OATI), is an asset.
