The Specialist, Banking Services – Professions contributes to the overall success of the Banking Services – Healthcare and Professions, Small Business Banking, Canadian Network team by ensuring individual objectives, initiatives and plans are executed to support the team's business strategies and objectives while ensuring all activities are conducted in compliance with regulations as well as internal policies and procedures.
The Specialist, Banking Services – Professions is part of a national team responsible for providing holistic advice and solutions for profitable growth of high-value new or existing professional clients, focusing on lawyers, accountants and other non-healthcare professional segments.
Is this role for you? For this position, you will:
- Manage and grow a portfolio of high-yield business accounts in the Professions segment, with a focus on achieving retention, significant deposit growth and other objectives while meeting Scotiabank's service standards:
- Acquire and maintain in-depth knowledge of assigned professional clients, including the nature and evolution of their businesses, personal needs and financial situations as well as the terms of the financial services they use
- Understand the client's professional journey to provide specialized and personalized advice and solutions to enhance the client's ability to succeed in their business.
- Be knowledgeable about retail solutions to provide overall advice as a single point of contact.
- Establish and maintain business relationships with internal partners, including Personal Banking, Small Business Banking, Commercial Banking and Wealth Management, to identify opportunities to acquire, develop and deepen client relationships.
- Respond to service requests, i.e., inform and guide clients on the use of services and ensure their satisfaction in this regard.
- Take the necessary steps to save the client relationship, if necessary.
- Organize networking activities that create sales opportunities or enhance the service offered to clients by staying informed about events, trends and practices in the healthcare and professions markets.
- Identify potential clients through various means, including soliciting referrals from existing clients, collaborating with internal partners and centers of influence, building a network of business relationships in the community and
participating in marketing and training seminars and industry events.
- Detect the commercial and personal banking preferences and needs of clients in terms of investments and borrowing, and refer them to the right bankers who will offer them complete solutions.
- Collaborate proactively with branch managers, personal and commercial banking advisors, and wealth management consultants to ensure that a comprehensive solution approach (personal and business credit, payments, and investments) is offered to clients (new and existing) in the professional and healthcare segment.
- Respond to commercial banking solution requests, i.e., gather relevant information, process requests, and perform preliminary checks as needed.
- Inform the client of the process and implementation date of the service, ensuring, as needed, to communicate instructions and ensuring that deployment is carried out as planned.
- Support professionals and work closely with them as part of their transition from the Scotia Professional Program for students to the Scotia Professional Program.
- Work closely with directors, the PLS program, and the Authorization Expertise Center (CEA) to process agreements.
- Perform credit reviews in a timely and sufficiently detailed manner.
- Authorize, renew, or refuse client requests in accordance with the Bank's standard policies and authorized limits, and route other requests according to established procedures.
- Properly prepare all documents or ensure they are prepared; ensure that accounts meet authorization conditions.
- Detect deviations from authorization conditions and eliminate them.
- Detect deterioration trends and other undesirable trends affecting the loan portfolio, and seize opportunities to reduce risks and losses.
- Meet established objectives, including assets, deposits, revenue growth, business expansion, customer loyalty, referrals, customer service, operational efficiency, and personal development.
- Acquire a good understanding of the branch's financial and non-financial objectives and how to contribute to achieving them.
- Participate in team meetings and individual coaching and training sessions.
- Strictly observe the Bank's and branch's security procedures, respect assigned powers and responsibilities, and immediately report unusual facts or fraudulent activities to your supervisor.
Do you have the skills to succeed in this role?
- At least 2 years of experience in business banking and relationship management.
- College or university courses in accounting, finance, business law, and economics or equivalent work experience.
- Specialized knowledge of the characteristics and benefits of Professions libérales Scotia (PLS) program products and services for small businesses, as well as sales techniques and related tools and calculators.
- In-depth experience in credit assessment.
- In-depth knowledge of the capital lending program.
- In-depth knowledge of the characteristics and benefits of Personal Banking Services products and services for professionals.
- In-depth knowledge of the market and demonstrated specialized knowledge of the healthcare and professional segments.
- In-depth knowledge of risk management policies and procedures.
- The incumbent works in a standard office environment; however, they spend 90% of their time outside the office working with the branch sales team or at the current or potential client's premises.
- They are often on the road to participate in marketing activities, interviews, trade shows, and events related to centers of influence.
- Client demands are constant and may be required outside business hours.
In addition to French, the incumbent must also have sufficient proficiency in English, as the work involves regular interaction and collaboration with groups and individuals based in Toronto, as well as constant interaction with other individuals, including clients, who speak English, locally and elsewhere.
