We are looking for a

Principal Product Designer, a rare Principal Individual Contributor role reporting directly to the Head of Design for Retail. Lightspeed AI is our biggest bet: an intelligence layer that acts as a partner for every merchant, moving from an assistant that answers questions to an agent that takes action. Almost nothing in designing this experience relies on an established model: how merchants delegate tasks to an agent, supervise its work, learn to trust it, and stay in control.

You will help shape this plan.

The role has two main focus areas. First, leading the design of our agentic AI experience, the major product development challenge that will define the next several years. Second, raising the craft level of the entire Retail design organization: not by writing standards, but by designing alongside teams in each product domain to show concretely what excellence looks like.

As a second objective, you will help shape our mobile point-of-sale strategy.

This is not a management role. This position is for someone comfortable designing strategies and executing them down to the pixel, someone who can keep a big-picture view of a large product portfolio while remaining the most hands-on designer on the team.

Location

Canada is the preferred location, but strong candidates are welcome anywhere in North America.

Your responsibilities

Define new interaction models for agentic AI: design how merchants interact with an intelligent agent that works on their behalf, directs it, supervises it, and reinforces it.

Lead the end-to-end design of our AI experience as a hands-on IC, from concept to prototype to polished, shipped products, working closely with AI engineering and product leadership.

Raise the level of excellence across the company through direct contribution, jumping into any product domain to explore problems and advance the most important projects, while leaving teams stronger than when you arrived.

Lead forward-looking work to reimagine core merchant experiences, grounded in hands-on exploration and prototyping: concepts ambitious enough to shape strategy and concrete enough to implement.

Prototype with AI, every day: work AI-first using modern tools to move quickly from a goal to a functional prototype, and model this way of working for designers across the organization.

Shape our mobile strategy through conceptual thinking and practical support, as an ongoing secondary priority.

Exercising influence without authority: harmonizing collaboration between designers, leaders and cross-functional partners across multiple teams through clarity, storytelling and the quality of the work itself.
