As an AZ or DZ driver, you will deliver materials to construction sites, inspect and maintain trucks, report shortages and complaints to the operations manager, and assist with loading and storing materials. You will use a truck equipped with a crane for unloading, lifting, and placing materials.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare, load, and unload the vehicle manually and/or using equipment provided by the company.
  • Report any inventory, shipping, or receiving discrepancies (quantity, quality, damage, substitutions) and obtain proper authorization before receiving, shipping, or delivering the order.
  • Plan and supervise the loading of the truck, maximizing the use of space and distributing the weight in accordance with MTO regulations and safety standards.
  • Secure materials with the appropriate equipment to prevent damage and ensure safety during all operations.
  • Plan routes and delivery locations according to schedules established by the dispatcher.
  • Maneuver the truck in loading/unloading areas with the assistance of a signaler.
  • Check the condition of the ground at the construction site to ensure it can support the weight of the vehicle safely.
  • Cover merchandise with tarps as needed and ensure their use in case of bad weather.
  • Reinstall removed guardrails or scaffolding for deliveries (safety requirement).
  • Deliver and/or supervise the placement of materials in designated areas according to customer instructions.
  • Collect C.O.D payments before unloading and obtain customer signatures for authorized credit accounts.
  • Keep the vehicle clean and free of waste.
  • Wear a safety helmet and safety boots in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Maintain a professional language at all times; no profanity or aggressive behavior is allowed.
  • Drive a gas or diesel truck on urban, rural, municipal, provincial, and interprovincial roads while respecting the Highway Code.
  • Perform all mandatory daily vehicle checks according to MTO and report any defects immediately.
  • Fill out required logs, including a logbook, and comply with maximum weight laws.
  • Operate the crane (boom) in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and LSST regulations.
  • Ensure the crane forks are free of ice.
  • Check ground conditions before using the crane, install stabilizer plates, and ensure the truck's stability.
  • Use a delivery helper as a signaler when necessary to ensure safety.
  • Drive a truck-trailer combination according to MTO rules.
  • Perform any other assigned tasks. In case of doubt, consult your supervisor.
  • Must be available to work a mandatory Saturday in July, before the civic holiday weekend, to support annual inventory activities.
  • Perform any other task required to meet the company's needs.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

Experience

  • 1 year of truck driving experience.
  • 1 year of experience as a crane operator (an asset).
  • Experience with other hydraulic equipment (an asset)

Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid AZ or DZ license with a clean driving record.
  • Insurability and a clean driving record.
  • Valid crane operator certification (MTCU 0 to 8 tons) (an asset)

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform calculations, read orders, write instructions, and fill out forms.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and application of safe lifting methods.
  • Mandatory wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb, balance, crouch, kneel, crawl, reach, with manual dexterity and good depth perception.
  • Trunk rotation with 20 lb at arm's length over 180 degrees.
  • Repeated bending to the ground.
  • Ability to reach materials above head level.
  • Strength: lift, carry, push, and pull up to a maximum of 100 lb; frequently lift up to 50 lb.

Work Environment and Conditions

  • Outdoor work in extreme temperatures (cold or heat).
  • Daily work with mechanical equipment.
  • Early start to the day required.
